Buck Woodall is suing Disney, alleging 20 years of "concerted and highly orchestrated action" to deliberately harm him.

Artists are taking Shein to court under RICO ﹣ a law designed to combat organized crime. And so far, the case is moving forward.

A federal judge ruled that Shein’s algorithm-driven copyright infringement could qualify as a crime under RICO. The court also found that the artists provided enough detail to support claims of mail and wire fraud. Most of Shein’s motion to dismiss was dismissed.

It’s shaping up to be a long fight, but for now, the case stands.

Today, Bram Stoker’s novel “Dracula” and the film “Nosferatu” are in the public domain. This has allowed many creators, like Robert Eggers, to reinterpret the stories without copyright restrictions.

Here’s Eggers’ explanation for his choice to adapt Nosferatu rather than Dracula:

“I mean, as much as I love the [Dracula] novel, it is a little bit overstuffed with Victoriana. I think something about the [Nosferatu] adaptation is just a simple fairy tale…Something that I really loved about [Nosferatu] is that it ends with the female protagonist being the heroine. I thought that it would be potentially more exciting if the whole film is told through her eyes, because it had the potential to be more emotionally and psychologically complex than an adventure story about a real estate agent…Through her eyes, I think we can really get into that mode more without it becoming the tragic anti-hero story of a lovelorn vampire, which I’m also less interested in.”
